Stanisław Quartz Mine

A+ A-
Stanisław Quartz Mine (in Polish: Kopalnia Kwarcu ‘Stanisław’) is one of the highest located strip mines in Europe. The quarry is based on a vein of clear quartz deposited in the Izerskie Humps (in Polish and Czech: Izerskie Garby), which was exploited as early as the 13th century. From the beginning of the 20th century the local quartz supplied the nearby glassworks and metalworks. Today Stanisław quarry is a research site for mineralogists seeking mountain crystals, aventurine and rose quar.
