A Czech city famed far and wide for its marvellous Botanical Garden (in Czech: Botanická zahrada). This has seven pavilions housing carnivorous plants, orchids, camellias, ferns, cacti, bonsai, Australian flora, a rosarium, an alpine garden, wetland plants and aquaria. Open daily 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (in winter until 4 p.m. only). Tickets: CZK 80.
Liberec is home to the oldest zoo in the Czech Republic, housing 170 species of animal and around 1,000 individuals. Open daily 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (in winter until 5 p.m. only). Tickets: CZK 100 (in winter: CZK 70). Offered in summer is sightseeing by steam train.
Mt. Ještěd soars above Liberec (1,012 m a.s.l.). The top of the mountain is occupied by a television tower, a three-star hotel, a restaurant, a café and an observation platform. It is also a winter sports centre and biking centre with biking trails. Access is by car, on foot or by aerial cable car.
