Czarci Młyn (Devil’s Mill) - Major attraction of Czerniawa is Czarci Młyn (Devil’s Mill). This extraordinary structure is the heritage of characteristic construction of Silesian and Czech borderland. It dates back to 1890 and is still equipped with original plant. Everyone visiting this place may see how millers used to work on the turn of the 19th and 20th century. No-one knows whether they had to sign a pact with the devil to get to know the secret of baking, but they say deuces and devils often visit the mill. To secure oneself against the evil powers, it is recommended to stroke lions which guard the entrance, just in case. The real treasure of this industrial architecture relic is water mill wheel of diameter 6,5 meters, constructed over one hundred years ago. By using the wheel, it was possible to perform fully mechanized transport of crops. Visitors may tour the unique collection of the Devil’s Mill while eating a chunk of homemade bread baked in the mill according to traditional recipe in an oven which is over 100 years old.
